With the writer's strike underway, there's not a lot to shout hallelujah about. But we're praying with the Gemstones this month for a joyous agreement to be reached. These two anticipated shows from the #SessionsFamily should keep anyone's spirits up during a difficult time in our industry. Here's what's coming in June.

Manifest

Manifest

Release date: June 2, 2023

How to watch: Netflix; trailer

Why to watch: After dropping a cliffhanger ending to part 1 of season 4 (don't worry, no spoilers here), creator Jeff Rake concludes his saved-by-the-fans mystery thriller about Flight 828 with the long-awaited final episodes. The show first aired on NBC and was rescued by Netflix after a determined campaign from fans, and Rake has rewarded his loyal viewers with a packed first half of season 4 that answered a few questions but left fans eagerly awaiting more. As Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) fittingly puts it," Our story's ending in a way we may not even realize."

The Righteous Gemstones

The Righteous Gemstones

Release date: June 18; 2023

How to watch: HBO + Max; trailer

Why to watch: If you're sad about the series finale of Succession (and who wouldn't be?), you can get your fill of self-absorbed siblings vying for daddy's throne with The Righteous Gemstones, now in its third season (and first with us). This hilarious comedy created by and starring Eastbound and Down's Danny McBride satirizes the world of televangelists, but it's really about family (just like Succession), the good and the bad (mostly the bad). Patriarch John Goodman returns as Eli Gemstone, along with his bumbling heirs played by McBride, Adam DeVine (Modern Family) and the scene-stealing Edi Patterson (discovered by McBride in Vice Principals). The stacked cast already included Walton Goggins and Tim Baltz, but have also added Stephen Dorff, Steve Zahn and Shea Wigham (is there an HBO show he's not on?), among others. Praise be indeed!
